PERAC has posted a proposed amendment to 840 CMR 15.03 with the new definition of regular compensation on their website. Also posted are a schedule of six hearing dates and sites. DEVINE ELECTED MACRS PRESIDENT

Riley Reelected Vice President, Two New Board Members Chosen

Denis Devine has been elected president of the Massachusetts Association of Contributory Retirement Systems to serve a two-year term. Devine, who was unopposed in his election, is a member of the Woburn Retirement Board. He is also a retired fire captain and previously served as MACRS vice president from 2005-2007.

A past president of Woburn Local 971 PFFM-IAFF, Devine has been active in MACRS since 1990, when he was first elected to the MACRS Executive Board. He was reelected to the Executive Board in 2008.

Brad Tenney, chairman of the Cambridge Retirement Board, chose not to seek reelection as MACRS President, after serving from 2007-2009. Tenney was recently elected secretary treasurer of the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts and continues to serve as a Cambridge firefighter.

One man's legacy: All About Devotion

leahy_brian.jpgBrian Leahy had a perfect day last Saturday (January 10, 2009). He spent the morning at Greenhill's Bakery. Brian had attended the meeting at the Murphy Community Center earlier in the week and was anxious to round up support from local officials to make the Murphy Community Center on Worrell Street a more welcoming place for the kids in the neighborhood.

He stopped in to Gerard's, went to Mass and Confession at Saint Ann Church, and then had dinner at Sonny's with his wife Evie and best friend Billy Fitzgerald and his wife Susan.

After returning home and going to bed, Brian came down with an excruciating headache and became violently ill. An ambulance was called and he was taken to Carney Hospital, where he died of an aneurysm.

Proposed changes to the MACRS Constitution

The proposal was unanimously approved by the Executive Board and will be open to debate and ratification during the conference June 1-4, 2008."
